Modern people live in a comfortable and adjustable environment. Heaters in winter, airconditioning in summer. As such we are less likely to really feel the four seasons. During summer when we are supposed to sweat, the perspiration is locked in the body due to airconditioning; then, during winter the use of heaters makes us sweat unnaturally – the Yang chi flows outward and the body cannot store the Jing chi/body fluid. If you don’t store up Jing in winter, you’re likely to get sick in summer. Many people get sick because of these artifical circumstances. The skin’s function and immunity decreases which causes dampness to fester in the body and leads to depleted Yang chi. Dampness is more harmful to our health than coldness.
